In early 2010, we thought it would be both fun as well as interesting to try to document the many celebrities that have shopped here over the years. We had notes, lots of photographs, and fortunately a number of people who have been with us for many, many years. This is what we came up with...
JO ANNE WORLEY
Jo Anne Worley (of "Laugh-In" fame) Wow! Did she ever cut up when she was here. What a blast!
Sally Rand (famous fan-dancer during the '50s & '60s)
Ringling Brothers, Barnum & Bailey Circus cast members when they were in town each year. (Our favorite memory: we made a number of custom vinyl hula skirts for their elephants.)
David Opatoshu (actor - played Anan 7 in the original Star Trek episode)
Annette O'Toole and her mother, a dance teacher (Niland School of Dance) were regular customers.
Patrick Swayze and his mother, Patsy Swayze (choreographer, dance instructor and dancer).
Donna Douglas ("Elly May Clampett" of The Beverly Hillbillies")
Magician Paul Driscoll
Tommy Tune (actor, dancer, singer, director, producer, choreographer)
John Saxon ("Nightmare on Elm Street")
Jo Anne Pflug (Lt. Maria"Dish" Schneider in "MASH" as well as Cynthia Vaughn in "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil")
Beyonce Knowles (Destiny's Child). Without knowing who she was, we loved to watch her mother, Tina, shop - she had such a knack for putting together fabulous designs and colors of fabrics. She and her mom shopped with us often but had not yet risen to fame. We missed our chance to get her autograph!
Selena. She came in often; she told us that the next time she came in, she would bring us an autographed photo; unfortunately, she never returned.
BOOGEYMAN (WWE wrestler)
Jerry "The King" Lawler (wrestler, commentator, musician)
Lance Berkman (former Houston Astro)
Big Tex (formerly with the Globe Trotters)
Calvin Murphy (of the Houston Rockets)
Sleepy Floyd (of the Houston Rockets)
Turbo (the Houston Rockets' amazing mascot) was here lots!
Ernie "Big Cat" Ladd (former Houston Oiler and wrestler)
Booker T (WWE wrestler)
Joe Lopez (of the Tejano band Mazz)
Scarface (rapper with the "Fifth Ward Boys")
Mark "Corky" Ballas ("Dancing with the Stars") - His parents used to shop here frequently; his dad invented the "Weed Eater". We looked forward to receiving their wonderful Christmas cards each year which were all about their growing family.
Johnny Burton (of Burton Tailors). He was James Brown's tailor; he got all the rhinestones and fabrics for James Brown's outfits from us - because he had to have something that could "move like James Brown".
There was even an episode of "Hard Copy", a syndicated television program, that was filmed right here in our store!
